Stand out from the crowd. Go bold.
Getting the right color in your injection molded part is more than just aesthetic, indeed many people consider the right choice of tone an integral part of the whole process.
Whether for safety or purely attraction, choosing a color for parts that are visible to the consumer can make the difference between you and your competitor and help influence the sale of your end product. Put this into the world of automotives and displaying a precise color can also strengthen your reputation and amalgamate your branding strategy.
Contrary to simply selecting a color, there are a few facts about mixing colors for plastic injectionmolding which any product designer needs to be aware of to avoid disappointment. Essentially you can view the color option as one of four different methods.
1/ Compound color. In its simplest form, this is a colored plastic pellet where the pigment and raw material have already been pre-mixed, so you can see the end color, and they are now ready to injection mold as-is. Most injection molding companies such as ADIS Tachov s.r.o., already stock a wide range of these, so making your selection is very straightforward and cost-effective.
2/ Master-batching. Also created by the resin maker, or pellet manufacturer, these are mostly much bolder, stronger colors with a 50:50 ratio of color to pellet, and are therefore mixed with plain colored pellets to blend into a tone that matches the required color.
3/ and 4/ Solvent coloring and pigment mixing. Both are very similar in that they take plain, uncolored pellets and either spray (solvent coloring) color onto them, or mix pigment powder (pigment mixing) into a hopper with them, just before performing the injection. Both of these have the negative that controlling the end color is especially difficult, but if you have a very exacting color in mind, then due to the face there are many variables, it's possible to achieve virtually any tone imaginable.
